FOOD CONTROL AGENCY NECESSARY TO ENSURE LOCAL FOOD SAFETY
The government plans to speed up the establishment of South Africa’s food control agency in order to protect the local agricultural processing from unsafe food products entering South Africa.
Gareth Lloyd-Jones, MD of Ecowize, says the food agency will safeguard the agricultural sector from unfair competition and will enable the local agricultural processing to gain easier access to international markets from which they had been excluded due to a lack of verification and certification processes.
The food control agency is one of the legal ways that government can thwart imports that are threatening to local agro-processing. The government plans to use this as a way to job creation.
